This period is signified by transformation of sperm into a zygote, which helps in fertilization of eggs and the body gets prepared to welcome a new form of life being created in it.

Symptoms of pregnancy become visible during this period. Various tests need to be taken to confirm pregnancy. The heart of the baby starts beating with the beginning of 6th week. The fetus also gradually starts developing limbs in rudimentary form.

The body starts expanding to accommodate the developing fetus. Nausea, dizziness, and morning sickness are some symptoms which are observed during third month. You need not to get worried because it is normal to feel a little sick as a new life form is created within the body.

  • Fourth month:

The bones of the baby become hard and the baby can be felt moving in the womb by the mother. Hormones needed for the survival of the body start getting secreted in the body.

  • Fifth month:

The internal organs of the baby start developing. The fetus is covered with ‘lanugo’ which is a covering of soft –fine hair. The gender of the baby can also be determined at this stage. The movements of the baby become more significant.

  • Sixth month:

Contractions can be felt by the mother with the beginning of sixth month. The uterus prepares itself for the delivery. Growth of the baby accelerates with the deposition of fat in its body for regulation of temperature at the time of birth.

  • Seventh month:

The optical and auditory senses of baby start developing in this stage. A slowdown in movement of baby is observed as the space available in the uterus starts becoming insufficient.

  • Eighth month:

The growth of head becomes rapid as compared to the rest of the body.  The movement will become more regular and stronger. The brain and nerves will continue to develop.

You will be able to feel the bony parts of the body of the baby. The position of the baby should be checked at this stage. The baby should be in a head down position in the uterus.

  • Ninth month:

The length of the body of baby becomes approximately 16 inches. The baby is now ready to arrive with fully developed organs.

The whole feeling of going through these 9 stages is beautiful for the mother and awareness about all nine months is necessary to be able to carry on without any worries.
