Changes during Eighth Month of Pregnancy
- The development in the baby’s body continues and the body gets prepared for birth.
- The bones strengthen and the development of the nervous system takes place. This development continues even after the birth of the baby.
- Red blood cells are produced in the bone marrow this month. The baby can survive if he is born during this month.
- Sensitivity to light increases. The pupils in the baby’s eyes dilate when exposed to light.
- Hair growth is observed on head. The finger nails also reach the end of the tips of fingers.
- Taste buds develop on the tongue of the baby. He can distinguish sweet and sour in the fluid. Hiccups and cries can be observed by the end of this month.
- During this month you will feel regular, strong movements. Bony parts, such as heels, knees and elbows can be easily felt. You will feel breathless when the baby pushes up on your lungs. This is normal and as the baby moves into the correct posture for birth, this will improve.
- You may feel nervous or fearful about the birth and labor pain at this stage. Talk to someone who can help you to calm these fears. A person who has had a positive experience of child birth can be of great help to you. She can boost your confidence and reduce your anxiety.
-
Begin to prepare your older child if this is not your first baby. Sibling classes are offered by some hospitals. Ask your doctor or call the hospital for an inquiry about such classes. Registering for them can be a great help to prepare your first child for the newcomer. The basics of new born care are covered in these classes. Often videos are shown and the classes are made interactive
- The classes may sometimes include a tour of the maternity floor. Your child will get to know where and when you will be having the baby. Visiting the hospital and maternity floor can make your child feel less anxious when the due date arrives for you.
- The visits of doctor should become regular. The position of the baby for birth should be checked frequently. Ask the doctor about labor and birth and make sure that you do not have any doubt left in your mind. Discuss your birth plan, revise it with the doctor and make changes if necessary.
The eighth month of pregnancy requires you to be very careful since after this month labor pains may start at any time. Hence you need to be prepared for the arrival of your new born.
