Deciding for Conceiving after a Miscarriage
A very difficult decision to be made by a couple is at the time when they plan for conceiving after they have had a miscarriage. They have undergone the pain of losing a little one and now it is another attempt for getting pregnant.
How much the couples need to wait after miscarriage?
There is no well defined time, but as a matter of care and a little caution, healthcare experts suggest the women to wait for a few months so that the next pregnancy could deliver a healthy baby. When the woman has had a miscarriage, her uterus takes a little time to recover and get back to its normal functioning. Also the endometrial lining requires some time to become healthy and strong.
Generally it is suggested that after a miscarriage, the women must wait for at least 2-3 normal, healthy and regular menstrual cycles. It is found from various studies that couples wait for approximately 6 months or a year.
When should the couples consult a specialist?
To achieve a healthy pregnancy after a miscarriage, the couple can consult an expert if:
- The female is of age more than 35
- Couple has had some fertility issues before
- Two or more Miscarriage were reported before also
- Couple has some illness which may hinder with pregnancy
On what basis the couple must take the decision of conceiving again?
The couple must be prepared for trying for another baby mentally, emotionally as well as physically. When both the partners are ready to go for it, just make sure that there are no health issues with you both (which could cause harm in pregnancy).
Will there be a risk of another miscarriage?
Medical researches have come to a conclusion that the risk of miscarriage in the subsequent pregnancy is around 1 and a ½ times more if the gap between the trials is less than occurrence of one normal menstrual cycle. You must ensure that you get at least 2-3 regular cycles and then you start trying again.
Studied suggest that even if you have had 3 or more miscarriages consistently, then to you have seventy to eighty percent chances of delivering a healthy baby in the next pregnancy. So don’t loose heart!
Unluckily, if the earlier miscarriage was related with ectopic pregnancy, a twenty percent risk is there that the next pregnancy can also be ectopic.
Care to be taken in the next trial:
- Try to avoid unnecessary medicines
- Stick to a proper healthy and nutritious diet
- Follow a regular exercise routine and maintain a healthy weight
- Stop smoking and say a big no to alcohol
- Limit intake of caffeine
- A good amount of Folic acid and other essential food components
- In the first few weeks of pregnancy take a good amount of rest
