Development of Fetus from 5th to 9th Month
Month 5: Lanugo a thin layer of fine hair covers the body of your baby. Simultaneously, her eyelashes and eyebrows also develop. The unique fingerprints and footprints of the baby are also developed. The baby begins sucking and swallowing and may even be seen sucking her thumb when seen through the ultrasound. A white lanolin-like covering called the Vernix appears on your baby for the protection of her skin. The development of auditory senses takes place as her ears develop. The baby might be able to catch sound from outside the womb. The size of the baby is now approximately 7-8 inches and weight is ¾ to 1 pound as this month comes to an end.
Month 6: The immune system of your baby starts developing and she starts creating her own antibodies within her little body. Hand grip reflex and startle reflex are also developed. The development of lungs and alveoli takes place and the growth of the baby becomes more rapid day by day. She starts resembling a baby which she will look like when at the time of her birth. By the end of this month, her size is 9-10 inches weight is around 1½ to 2 1/4 pounds.
Month 7: The eyes of the baby can open now and she can now cry. The activities, movement and kicking of the baby will increase. You may be able to observe her hiccups and jumpy movements of her body. The baby grows fatter and fatter day by day and the bones of the baby are fully developed as this month reaches its maturity. The baby is approximately 11 inches long and weighs around 3 to 3 1/2 pounds, by the last week of this month.
Month 8: A lot of new developments take place at this stage of pregnancy. However, your baby continues to grow and mature while preparing itself for the world beyond the cozy womb of the mother. Your baby sleeps most of the time periods of REM sleep can also be observed. Baby is growing rapidly and lack of space can be felt due to which pressure by the uterus on the bladder increases. Your baby is around 13 inches long now and weighs approximately 5-6 pounds as this month ends.
Month 9: This is the last month of your pregnancy. The baby gets prepared for birth. The baby is not very active and relaxes for most of the time. The body of the baby is positioned in head down posture. The ideal range of baby’s size varies from 19 to 21 inches and weight varies from 7 to 8 pounds.
