First Month of Pregnancy
The first month also known as the fetal bud stage begins when a sperm fertilizes the egg. The fertilized egg then reaches the uterus through the oviduct to prepare it for implantation. During the fourth week the embryo is attached to the womb.
Symptoms: The first symptom observed is the absence of menstrual period. You will start experiencing symptoms like missed period, nausea and dizziness, vomiting, headache and poor appetite. If you suspect that you are pregnant schedule your appointment with your gynecologist or midwife
Physical changes observed
- The shape and size does not increase significantly in the first month.. Your waist-size may increase slightly.
- Breasts increase in size and become tender.
- An increase in vaginal fluid secretion will be observed which will last throughout the pregnancy.
- You will start feeling drowsier and start getting tired easily.
- There is an increase in the progesterone hormone due to which urinating becomes more frequent.
- The cardiovascular system starts taking care of the baby along with the body of the mother. The oxygen and nutrients are carried by blood to the baby.
- You might experience a drop in your blood pressure as a result of which you may feel a little sick or dizzy.
- Morning sickness and vomiting might be a common phenomenon.
Contact your doctor or midwife if you experience unbearable abdominal pain or bleeding at any stage of pregnancy.
Some precautions that need to be taken during the first month of pregnancy:
- Avoid crowded places to avoid any kind of infectious disease like influenza, rubella, hepatitis etc. Try not to use any medicinal drug as they can be harmful for the development of the fetus especially during the first month of pregnancy.
- Try to maintain maximum possible distance from devices that emit electromagnetic rays. Minimize usage of computers, microwave ovens etc.
- Do not drink concentrated tea or thick coffee or colas. Drinking boiled water whenever you feel thirsty is a good way to keep you healthy and safe during your pregnancy.
- Develop good eating habits in yourself and keep a check on your nutritional balance.
- Do not undertake risky activities.
First month is a month of rapid changes both at the mental, physical and emotional plane of the body. Changes in your hormones can cause mood swings. All this shall pass away as soon as you accept your baby and start thinking about other things that you will need to take care of after the arrival of the baby.
