You house needs to be a very safe and secure place for your infant after you have welcomed her in your home. Though the baby seems very small but there are a lot of things that you need to stay cautious about. Making your home safer will help you to avoid accidents that are very common and can be dangerous for your baby. So try to make the whole environment as safe as possible. Just take care of some small things listed below:
- The slats of the crib in which your baby sleeps should not be more than 6 cm apart.
- The mattress should fit in properly and securely.
- The crib should be kept away from the window. You should also take care that there are no wall decorations, drapery cords, heating units or other possible dangers in the proximity of the crib.
- Do not make the baby sleep on a pillow.
- Lock the crib carefully when the baby is asleep in it.
- Small toys, cell phones etc must be kept away from baby’s reach. As the baby grows older she will try to put everything in her mouth.
- Never leave the baby alone in even an inch of water. Neglecting your baby can be dangerous at any point of time.
- If you have left a baby on some elevated surface make sure that you make proper arrangements for the baby so that she does not fall.
- Do not put infant seat on any counter or table or any high surface.
- Never use any baby equipments without safety straps.
- Do not hold you baby while you are cooking, drinking something hot, or while you are puffin a cigarette. .
- Shake the bottle or stir baby food carefully to avoid hot spots before serving the baby anything that is hot.
- Stroller handles should not be used for hanging any extra weight. The stroller can tip over upside down if it is unable to hold the weight.
- If you make your baby sit on a car seat, take care that the car seat meets the safety guidelines. Always put your baby in a car seat. Be sure the car seat meets federal safety guidelines and is properly installed.
- Use proper lightings in stairs and corridors. Keep stairs and other areas well lit.
Non slip mats should be used on bathroom floors to avoid any slips of falls. Falls can be fatal for your infant. So be very sure to walk carefully while you carry them.
