Menstrual Problems: Symptoms and Treatment
PMS
Not long ago doctors believed that PMS symptoms were more psychological and physical. The times changed and the males realized that this was a real concern. (It was not fun for them either.)
Coping with PMS
Over half of females will suffer the symptoms of PMS a couple of weeks before their periods and sometimes into their periods.
Guess what the cause is? Right, hormones again. Things that are going to make it worse are eating spicy salty delicious Mexican food, stress and too much or too little excercise. So, we might just as well start every chapter with hormones and exercise. One is the culprit; one is the balm.
Symptoms of PMS Include
Anxiety and irritability, headaches, mood swings, fatique, weight gain, breast tenderness, sugar cravings, lower back pain, cramps, nausea, depression, oily skin and skin eruptions, stomach bloating. What a combination of foul play!
So most people get some of these symptoms, usually not all, but one way to waylay the aches and pains is to eat a calm, nutritious diet. The good saucy, spicey foods are just going to amp you up until you’re ready to scream.
Sleep, sleep, sleep. Drink some “Sleepy Time” tea or a glass or warm non-fat milk to relax enough to go to sleep. Even though drinking a lot of water seems bloating, it really will flush out your system and get rid of that which might really make you gain weight.
Walk and swim 3X per week. Take Advil or Tylenol for the pain and if your sugar cravings are out of control, eat an orange. Oranges always are the right thing, it seems. Ugly Pepto-Bismo, despite its unattractive appearance and taste really does settle the stomach. The toast and herbal tea remedy works, as well. Vitamins and nutrients may help with the mood swings. “We enjoy being a girl.”
