New CRB law

On the news this lunchtime they were discussing the new law that the government has brought in regarding CRB checks for those who spend time with children. The law has been amended slightly since it was first brought to the public’s attention a few months ago. Originally those people who helped families out with the school run or for a short while would have to have a CRB check.

Of course that was very unrealistic, but it does mean a lot of confusion as to what the law does entail exactly. On ITN news they were allowing viewers to phone in with their questions. One lady phoned in, worried that she would need to have a CRB check as a volunteer in a nursery. I can’t believe this is not already a law!

CRB formOf course I would expect everyone in a nursery to have a CRB check, whether they are paid employees or volunteers. They are still put in a position of trust by the parents and it would be horrible to think you are leaving your children with someone who has a long history of criminal activities. Personally I am happy for anybody I don’t know who might have contact with my children to have a CRB check.

If there’s nothing to hide there shouldn’t be a problem.
