The pre pregnancy phase is a significant period in a couples’ life. When the couple dreams of a little one in their lives, they must also pay heed to a few points such as:

1.     Make sure that you both get a physical checkup from a doctor. To emphasize on, you must discuss about chronic medical conditions such as genital herpes, diabetes, Crohn’s disease which may cause harmful affects on pregnancy.

2.     If you are already under some medication, make sure to ask the doctor whether they need to be altered or shall be discontinued so that they do not hinder pregnancy.

3.     Take prenatal Vitamins approximately 3-6 months prior to conception (of course with the consent of doctor).

4.     Make a note of the hazards which can be caused due to your workplace and try to find some solution.

5.     Keep eyes on your daily diet. Reduce fat and sweet consumption. Drink plenty of water, a minimum of eight glasses. Also include juices and milk in your diet for sure.

6.     Your daily food intake must comprise of: six servings of grains (prefer whole grain breads, brown rice, cereals), two or three servings of calcium rich food items, two servings of protein rich food items such as fish, beef, seven servings of vegetables and fruits.

7.     Avoid caffeinated beverages.

8.     If you exercise daily, discuss the exercise with your doctor and ask if some of them need to be altered so that they do not cause any harm in pregnancy. If you are not following any exercise routine, then ask the doctor to suggest you some low impact exercises and activities like walking.

9.     Say a NO to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and nicotine .

10.  Take proper sleep. All-nighters can cause danger to your health and may cause some fertility issues.

11.  Avoid stressful situations and do not worry and don’t even let your partner worry about things.

12.  Unpack all your emotions in front of your partner. Discuss things that are to come to you both, how well will you tackle those, what all needs to be done, how will you help each other etc.

13.  Another major aspect is the financial aspect. Query that your insurance covers full prenatal care or delivery. For some reasons you may need to choose some local hospital or an in-network doctor as per rules. So make sure this beforehand.

14.  Get insured, if you do not have insurance. The total cost of pregnancy from start to end will be very much than paying for the HMO polices which is approximately two hundred dollar a month.

15.  Plan for some investments for the new life you will be giving birth to.

16.  Get complete information about maternity and paternity leaves, policies etc. of your company.
