Problems with Swine Flu Vacine Production

swine_flu_vaccine_0428It seems there are serious manufacturing problems with H1N1 vaccine.  By the end of October, 40 million doses were scheduled fpr production – only 30 million will be available. Dr. Anne Schuchat, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, explained this during afternoon press conference.

“The delays the manufacturers have will have a substantial impact for the states in their planning efforts. We are seeing more and more vaccine become available — we wish it were more than it is, but at least we have some,” she said.

At this moment, 11.4 million doses of the vaccine are available. States have ordered 8 million of those doses and by the end of year, 190 million doses should be dispensed.

Eighty-two doses have been distributed – 114 million of the seasonal flu vaccine is the total goal. Schuchat said that 71% of already produced doses are already been distributed. So, it is a good idea to get vaccinated for the regular seasonal flu.
