During the second month the embryo begins to transform into a fetus. This is when some major changes can be observed. Progesterone and estradiol levels increase in the body due to their secretion by placenta.

  1. Symptoms:

Nausea and morning sickness may continue from the first month. Rotations can be felt in the stomach, which might make you feel even dizzier. Hands and feet may swell. Constipation is also observed during this month.  One of the symptoms observed in the second month in some particular cases is, slight white vaginal discharge.

Physical changes observed:

  • Breasts increase in size and become tender.
  • Hair thinning and acne problems may also be observed in some cases.
  • Hyper-pigmentation can occur if you do not take good care of your skin. Pigmented areas like moles and freckles will darken due to hyper-pigmentation.
  • Bleeding of gums during pregnancy also known as pregnancy gingivitis. Brush and floss twice a day essentially to avoid this.
  • An increase in vaginal fluid secretion will be observed which will last throughout the pregnancy.
  • You may feel like urination frequently.
  • Gas/indigestion can be observed.
  • You will start feeling certain movements in the stomach.

Precautions:

Be aware of all threats and protect yourself from all of them.  Toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection is very harmful for the mother during pregnancy.  This infection spreads from feces of animals and undercooked meat.  Hence avoid going to any such place where you may be exposed to any kind of infection. Prefer home-cooked food rather than eating outside. Do not lie down on your back as it reduces the flow of oxygen to the fetus. Even if you had not felt dizzy in your first month you’ll start feeling sick during the second moth. It gets really difficult for the body to adapt to the rapid changes. Take rest whenever required by your body.

Contact your doctor or midwife if you experience unbearable abdominal pain or bleeding at any stage of pregnancy.

Second month brings with itself a sense of carrying the responsibility of bringing a new life to this world. Mixed feelings are observed an the body prepares itself to take care of the baby for the next seven months.  You need to adjust to the sudden changes you might observe during this month and be cautious so as not to hamper or disturb the safe growth of your baby.
