Signals that Indicate You Are in Labor

As the due date comes closer women become more anxious and confused between a real and a false contraction. The labor like contractions is just the preparation of the real thing which is going to come soon. The preparatory ones do not hurt as much as the real ones. Sometimes the actual contractions are so intense that you cannot even walk or talk. If you feel that the contractions occur in every five to six minutes and you have them continuously for an hour and each one has the same strong intensity then you are in labor.

When you see that a continuous flow of musty fluid you should know that these are real signs that your labor has started.  But there is a difference between this gush of fluid and the incontinence due to the pressure that the baby’s head creates when it pushes the bladder resulting in leakage of urine. It’s not necessary that you have contractions when your water breaks. So, under these conditions you should get in touch with your doctor. Before you call your doctor make sure to not down the color of the fluid, the Group B streptococcus test status which is generally performed in the last month of your pregnancy.

Labor is a different for every women and it is difficult to predict how long will it last. But if you know the signs of a labor you get mentally prepared for it and you will know what is going to happen next.

What will happen when your labor is just twenty-four to forty-eight hours away?

Getting runs is one of the first signs that your labor is not far enough. Some women have diarrhea one or two days before the labor. Sometimes it is also possible to have vomiting and indigestion just before the labor. These are all measure taken by the body to empty the bowels so that the uterus is able to contract. You may also undergo the process of lightening where the head of the baby will drop into the pelvis and line itself for labor. The diaphragm will not feel the pressure and you will be able to breathe more comfortably than before.

Finally, you may also feel a spike in your energy levels as if you want to finish all the pending tasks of your home. These are signs that you are getting ready for labor and thus do not knock yourself out and save your energy for the labor.
