Sixth Month of Pregnancy

Sixth month is like a turning point for most of the women. It is a time when the mother enjoys the growing belly and feels the baby moving inside the womb.

Changes Observed:

  • The movement of the fetus increases. Due to small size the baby if free to move and change positions in the fluid.
  • The baby breathes and swallows the fluid. This helps in the development of muscles of the baby which it uses for breathing and eating.
  • A layer of fat begins to form under the skin surface to keep the baby warm and so that the body temperature is regulated after the birth of the baby.
  • Vernix, a waxy layer of substance helps in protecting the baby in the womb and its watery environment.
  • Lanugos are the fine hair which grows all over the baby’s body.
  • The baby starts resembling a real baby. The only difference is the size.
  • The lungs are still to be developed.

Tips for the Mother:

  • It is very important to continue having regular prenatal care.
  • You need to take good care of yourself and go for regular checkups with the midwife of doctor.
  • Take urine test to know of any disease that may spread to the baby.
  • You may notice the time when the baby is asleep and when it is active.
  • Symptoms like indigestion, constipation and aches in the lower abdomen are observed.  Take care that you do not eat food outside and avoid spicy food.
  • In some cases heart burn and bleeding gums is also observed. Make sure that you do not put any stress on yourself.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Ensure that you get a sound sleep and do not sleep less than 8 hours in a day.
  • Simplify your exercises and keep doing them so that you do not become totally inactive.
  • Leg swelling is also seen in sixth month of pregnancy. . Message your legs and do stretching exercises. This will relieve you from pain of any kind and prevent you from getting leg cramps.
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands is also observed in some cases. This is known as Carpal discomfort. to reduce it one should do some exercises of palm regularly also.
  • Make sure that you are in a good maternity dress which is soft and comfortable.

You will need to take a break from your busy lifestyle and relax. Things may become dull at times but for some, this is the most beautiful time for spending time with oneself.
