I often fall asleep while I am feeding Oscar in the night. Especially if he has had a particularly restless night. When I went to my breastfeeding workshops before Toby was born, I remember they promoted co-sleeping as one of the benefits of breastfeeding. But it scares the life out of me.
For me to pass out from tiredness while I am feeding Oscar is worrying. He usually manages to get himself into a comfortable position and falls back to sleep no problem. But I get scared that I will roll over onto him, or that my husband will. Also, Oscar sleeps really well when he is being cuddled and I don’t want him to get used to sleeping in my bed.
Sometimes, even when I have put Oscar back to bed and fallen asleep without him, I will wake up and wonder where he is. That feeling is much more scary because my immediate reaction is that he’s fallen out of bed. Of course he’s fine and tucked up in his own bed!
