What scares the expecting mothers during childbirth? – Part 2

Labor is the most difficult time of the entire period of pregnancy and women have various apprehensions about it. It is especially difficult for the women because of the various medical interventions and steps followed by doctors that are not known to a lot of people in general. We have discussed some such fears in our previous part and we are trying to explore some more such fears commonly faced by women

Fear of having a C-Section

The fear of having a C-Section is very common among pregnant women but luckily the chances are very little and it is even low for the first timers. On the whole the rate of cesarean births is around twenty to twenty-five percent and for the first timers it is less than fifteen percent. The most common reason of having a c-section is the lack of progress. If you have regular contractions but the cervix stalls to dilate for at least 2 hours it may indicate that there is a no progress. There are also other reasons like if your placenta is low lying (placenta previa), the baby gets into the feet first position also called as breech or the baby is in a state of distress then in these conditions the doctor has to decide to go for a c-section.

Other than these reasons there are hardly any chances that you will have to go through a c-section. But you can further limit the chances by attending some childbirth classes or consulting your doctor of what can you expect. If you take these measures you will be mentally prepared of your delivery experience and if there is something you could do to avoid a c-section you can do it with time in hand.

Fear of the unbearable pain

Again most of the women are afraid of pain. You will be amused to know that you are capable of taking a lot more pain than you think. You can learn some relaxation and breathing techniques by attending childbirth classes. You also have to keep in your mind that if you suffer pain there are medications that will help you to get rid of the pain. If you are keen on giving an all natural birth even then consult your doctor about the medications that you wish to take in case of an emergency.

Educating yourself about Labor is the best way you can prepare yourself for it so try and gather as much information as you can to keep yourself ready for the final day.
