Women’s Health: Bladder and Kidneys
Every woman that I know has suffered from urinary tract infections. They are terrible, and so painful that you literally can do nothing but sit on the commode. The whole area is throbbing and you might have blood in your urine. These infections can occur when the urethra is close to the sexual organs and bacteria gets into the bladder.
We always get the same lecture. Drink water before and after sex. Drink cranberry, blueberry or pomegranate juice, which works for some people. Other people are in way too much pain and fever to deal with it at home. The doctor will ask for a clean catch urine sample and will be able to confirm the diagnosis right away. You will likely be treated with antibiotics and bladder desensitizers that turn your urine orange. In some cases, you might be prescribed a certain anti-biotic that you are to take immediately after your have intercourse to interrupt what once again is a bladder infection.
There’s another problem that can arise after childbirth. It occurs often during vigorous exercise. It is stress incontinence, which causes some urine to leak out. It can be embarrassing so if you’re going out to play wear a napkin or tampon to soak up what might leak out. We’ve all heard of the wonderful Kegel exercises of tightening your vaginal opening, then opening, then tightening, and finally hold it for 10 seconds. It develops a nice firm closure to your bladder, and improves sexual activity, as well. If the case gets really bad, there is surgery to close things up somewhat.
Managing Incontinence
Use your Kegels, avoid caffeine or diuretics, limit fluids before impact activities, wear an absorbable pad, insert a tampon, if possible, medication and surgery.
Brain and Nerves
If you experience weakness, numbing of extremities, headaches, vision and hearing problems and seizures you have a problem that could be a small as a pinched nerve, or a stroke or lesion on the spinal cord, nerve or brain. Serious diseases such as Parkinson’s, meningitis, multiple sclerosis or other viruses can really cause disastrous results. If you have any of the above, see a neurologist and limit your play time until you’ve been examined. Frequent headaches that interfere with your life need medical attention, as well.
